Wiggins is an assistant professor of kinesiology. He received his B.S. in Exercise Physiology from Ohio University, and M.S. and Ph.D. in Human Performance and Exercise Physiology from Indiana University Bloomington. Following his Ph.D., he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic (2017-2023). His research program is broadly interested in the oxygen delivery cascade and how the various components of oxygen delivery impact exercise tolerance in performance. Specifically, he is interested in how oxygen delivery is altered in hypoxic (high-altitude) environments. His lab utilizes a number of different tools including metabolic/gas exchange, skeletal muscle blood flow and non-invasive measurements of muscle oxygenation (near-infrared spectroscopy) to better understand each step of the oxygen cascade. Overall, the goal of his research program is to further understand limiting factors and identify news ways to improve exercise performance in healthy and disease populations.
