Jungmin Kwon is an assistant professor of language and literacy in the Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University. Her research centers on immigrant children and families, transnational migration, multilingualism and teacher preparation for linguistically and culturally diverse students.

Using an ethnographic and qualitative approach, she examines the ways immigrant children draw on multilingual repertoires, build bilingual identities and mobilize linguistic and cultural knowledge as they move across spaces and geographic borders. She is also interested in exploring how bilingual parents support their children's language and literacy learning locally and globally.

She is the author of "Understanding the Transnational Lives and Literacies of Immigrant Children" (Teachers College Press, 2022), which was recognized by the 2022 American Educational Studies Association Critics' Choice Book Award. In 2022, she received the Early Career Award from the AERA’s Critical Perspectives on Early Childhood Education SIG.

Her scholarly work has appeared in journals, including International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, Bilingual Research Journal, Language and Education, Language Arts and others. Her research has been funded by the American Educational Research Association, the International Literacy Association and the American Council on the Teaching Foreign Languages.
