Gene testing to choose youth sports?

Companies are offering DNA tests supposed to help families decide which sports their kids will play best.

But, “Genetic testing can’t measure the passion a young person has for an activity,” says Larry Lauer, director of coaching education and development at Michigan State’s Institute for the Study of Youth Sports.

He tells TIME magazine that kids need time to develop interest and motivation to play certain sports, and that requires simply trying multiple sports.
