Equipment Check-out Policy
Initial Check-outs
Equipment is checked-out from the front desk in 133 Erickson Hall. You will need your MSU ID card with you at the time of check-out.
Laptops
Faculty and Staff: 1 Week
Graduate students: day-of checkouts
Longer checkouts for graduate students requires a faculty member from the College of Education to checkout the laptop in-person in the faculty’s name. That faculty member will ultimately be responsible for the equipment. Graduate students checking out laptops long term will be assigned our oldest laptop.
Undergraduate Students: No Laptop Checkouts
Tablets
Faculty and Staff: 1 Semester
Graduate Students: 2 Weeks
Undergraduate Students: Only with Instructor Approval
Adapters
Day-of Check-out unless needed for a trip or weekend event
All other Equipment
2 weeks with up to 2 extensions of 2 weeks without bringing equipment in.
Note: With the exceptions of Laptops and Tablets, we do not reserve equipment for future checkout. It is first-come-first-served.
Loaner Extensions
To check-out the equipment after extensions you must bring in the equipment and check it out again. This will only be allowed if no one has requested the specific equipment in the time you had it checked out.
Returns
To the best of our ability we remove lingering personal information on iPads and Laptops, however you should never leave accounts logged in or personal data on the devices you checkout.
iPads must be returned with your iCloud/Apple Account logged out and “Find my iPad” turned off. Returning iPads with “Find my iPad” on may result in your checkout privileges revoked due to the considerable effort it takes to get the device unlocked through Apple.
If equipment is stolen while in your possession we require a police report number and contact information for the agency which generated the report. For the loss of equipment valued at $200 or greater, it is expected that your personal insurance and/or personal funds will be used to replace equipment.
If equipment is damaged while in your possession your checkout privileges may be revoked.
You will receive, at minimum, three emails asking you to return overdue equipment. If you ignore these emails you may have your checkout privileges revoked. If you still do not return equipment we will turn to the Assistant Dean, Student Affairs, and other authorities on campus for assistance recovering University Equipment from you.
