Strive for Achievement in 2020 through Virtual Collaborations

December 12, 2020

Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Research Laboratory for Digital Learning (RLDL) at The Ohio State University has continued its effort in conducting educational research and advancing the science of learning. The social distancing practice and the travel restrictions have hindered our practice of translational research where we would normally travel to schools and work with teachers and administrators to generate research questions and then use research to help inform practice.

Lab members worked collaboratively at distance. Through weekly meetings and collaborative effort, we build a cohesive team with members support each other. Again we had an exceptional year full of impactful research and teaching. Here are some highlights of our 2020 RƩsumƩ.

We continue pushing our limit in producing scholarly outputs, resulting 17 publications in high-quality journals and books, 3 op-ed articles in The Conversation, and numerous conference papers. Lab members also won significant awards, including a presidential fellowship by Zilu Jiang and two EHE scholarships by Bab Akinkuolie and Nathan Hawk. In addition, our lab has produced four new professors in 2020 who now work at universities in the United States and internationally.

I feel extremely fortunate having intelligent, energetic, and hardworking individuals in this research laboratory. In 2020 when the pandemic has dramatically changed our lives, this group of young scholars supported each other in striving for excellence that also helped me to focus on research and scholarship. As an academic family, we support each other during difficult times, we celebrate and cheer when we succeed!

Reflecting on our experience in 2020: It was a difficult year, but together we strive for amazing achievement! Looking forward to 2021: We will continue working hard as a cohesive and strong team – an academic family that pushes hard in exploring the edge of knowledge and advancing the science of learning!
