TE 501/502 Field Instruction

Supporting Interns

As a field instructor, you will be teaching and leading TE 501 and TE 502 which are seminar style courses to support interns. Seminar time may be spent in small group discussions, online communication or individual meetings between the intern and field instructor where support for planning and discussion of classroom observations will take place. Attendance by the interns at all scheduled seminars/meetings is required. The seminar time will be arranged as agreed upon by the field instructor and seminar participants. For more information regarding the seminar scope and sequence see the TE 501/502 Syllabus.

Encouraging Leadership

View the TE 501 / TE 502 Syllabus (PDF)

Field instructors facilitate the 501/502 seminar and should encourage interns to take leadership in requesting and directing professional development opportunities within and outside the seminar. For example, within the seminar group, interns and field instructor will share responsibilities to plan, coordinate and lead meetings. Seminar participants will suggest topics, find guest speakers, and reserve meeting sites. Field instructors and interns may have requests from principals, teachers, teacher education faculty, and others to discuss various issues during the weekly seminars. Please see the last section of the TE 501/502 Syllabus for a complete list of suggested intern tasks.
