The Spartan Teacher Promise program supports college juniors and seniors who wish to become science teachers through a new forgivable loan program to help you reach your goals and succeed in your career.

The Spartan Teacher Promise provides an opportunity for students receive a refundable student loan for students who complete the Integrated Secondary Science Education program and agree to teach in a Michigan school once certified.
This program is available to current MSU students pursuing a teacher education degree in Secondary Sciences, MSU students changing their degree path to the teacher education and transfer students wishing to major in Teacher Education and the Integrated Secondary Science Education program.
The Integrated Science Secondary Education program is a Bachelor of Science Degree designed for persons who want a broad background in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics and to understand the interrelationships between these disciplines. This major is designed primarily for persons who plan to teach science (biology, chemistry, earth and space science, physics) in secondary schools.

Application Information:
- Applications will be open from Monday April 7, 2025 @ 8am – Friday May 16, 2025 @ 11:59pm. No applications received after this date will be considered.
- Awards will be announced on Monday June 2, 2025. Students receiving awards will be required to sign a loan agreement with Michigan State University before funds will be dispersed. Disbursements will be made on a semester basis.
- The Office of Financial Aid will award students’ Spartan Teacher Promise funds as part of their financial aid package.
Amount of Loan Available:
- Loans in the amount of $10,000 per year for the junior and senior year*
- Loan amounts will be added in the amount of $5,000 per semester, as long as the student stays in good academic standing.
Program Requirements:
- Be accepted to the Michigan State University College of Education Teacher Preparation Program.
- Be accepted to the Michigan State University College of Natural Science Integrated Secondary Science Education Program and have reached Junior grade level.
- Complete the Michigan Department of Education licensure requirements and register for courses outlined within the ISSE Program that are offered in the Colleges of Natural Science and Education.
- Be enrolled as a student in the ISSE program for a minimum of 12 credits per semester that I receive the loan award.
- Have completed the FAFSA and have applied for the MI Future Educator Fellowship.
