MSU is a “particularly active setting for producing coaching science publications,” according to a recent publication in the Journal of Coaching Education. A citation network analysis revealed Dr. Dan Gould (director of the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports) as the number one researcher of influence. The study also revealed that Dr. Deborah Feltz ranks #7 as a researcher of influence. Dr. Feltz is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Michigan State, formerly the department chairperson.
The network analysis — performed by Sandrine Rangeon, Wade Gilbert, and Mark Bruner — identified key authors and key publications published in 2007 and 2008 on the topic of coaching science. These authors concluded that the world of coaching science is “highly influenced by a small set of key publications and researchers.”
