Amita Chudgar is a professor of education policy. She is also the interim associate dean for international studies and the director of the Office of International Studies in Education. Her work examines the influence of home, school, and community contexts on educational access and achievement of children in resource-constrained environments. Through the analysis of diverse, large-scale, national, regional, and cross-national datasets, she studies the role of policy-relevant variables in ensuring equal educational opportunities for disadvantaged children. Her long-term interests focus on ensuring that children and adults in resource-constrained environments have equal access to high-quality learning opportunities, irrespective of their backgrounds.

Dr. Nancy Romig

Associate Director, Post BA World Language Teacher Certification Program

Dr. Nancy Romig is the Associate Director for the Post BA World Language Teacher Certification Program at Michigan State University (WLTCP). She is responsible for supporting students working towards Chinese or Spanish Language teacher certification, coordinating internships and program events, teaching, and other program activities. Dr. Romig earned a Ph.D. degree in Educational Psychology and Educational Technology from Michigan State University. Her research interests include Chinese language teaching and learning, best practices in language teaching, immersion education, and integration of technology in language learning. She has also successfully written federal grants. Prior to MSU, Dr. Romig was an elementary teacher, immersion specialist, and principal in an urban school district.

Dr. Romig earned both her M.A. degree in Educational Psychology and B.A. degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State University and is a certified Michigan elementary teacher (K-5 all subjects; 6-8 English Language Arts; and 6-8 Mathematics). She has also studied Chinese at Michigan State University and has a novice high proficiency level in speaking and listening. 

Gina McGarey

Program Coordinator, Post BA World Language Teacher Certification Program

Gina McGarey is the Program Coordinator for the Post BA World Language Teacher Certification Program at Michigan State University (WLTCP). She is responsible for working with, training, teaching, and supporting Chinese language intern teachers in the CLTCP. Gina has been working in this area for MSU since 2008 and has helped to foster an environment for our candidates that is supportive, builds individual character, and helps each person to acclimate and excel as a Chinese Teacher in a United States classroom.

Gina earned her B.A degree in East Asian Language and Culture focusing on Chinese language with a specialization in Global and Area Studies that focused on Asian Studies from Michigan State University. She earned her M.A. degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Michigan State University.  

Heather Miner

Office Assistant, Post BA World Language Teacher Certification Program

Heather Miner is an office assistant for the Post BA WLTCP at MSU.  As an administrative support, Heather assists students with the application, admission, and enrollment processes.  She also assists in coordination of a summer youth program which boasts Free Online Language Tutoring for any student K-12 for 7 weeks through summer a One-Week Online Language & Culture activity camp. 

Heather earned her bachelor’s degree at Grand Valley State University, and has specialized in business management, accounting and operations since graduating.
