Teacher Appreciation Week 2021

05/24/2021

The last year has been an incredibly tough one for educators, who have been working diligently to support their learners through the pandemic. Now, more than ever, it’s important to acknowledge our gratitude for this work. A week never seems like enough time to express our appreciation for teachers — so we added one extra day to celebrate! Our theme this year was “Take a Time Out with MAET,” in acknowledgement of how much you deserve a break! You may have seen this series on social media or in our newsletter. But if you didn’t get the chance to watch during Teacher Appreciation Week, we’d encourage you to do so now!

Words of Acknowledgement

We kicked off Teacher Appreciation Week with words of acknowledgement from Candace Robertson, MAET’s Assistant Director of Student Experience and Outreach. We hope this leaves you feeling validated and reflective of your hard work over the last year.

Take a Break

On Tuesday, we encouraged you to take a break with Brittany Dillman, MAET’s Graduate Certificate Programs Director. With everything you have experienced in the past year, you deserve a break (or two, or three…).

Laugh It Up

We continued our journey with Liz Owens Boltz, MAET’s Co-Director. Laughter is good for the soul! This video may have you laughing (or groaning) out loud with this collection of puns, one-liners, and jokes!

Chair Yoga

We reached out to a few of our friends to help us share a broad collection of wellness ideas for you. In this video, Taylor Guarnaccia, the College of Education’s Communication Coordinator and yoga instructor, shares some wonderful, gentle stretching moves you can complete in 5 minutes or less in your work chair.

6-Word Framework

Lisa Laughman, Emotional Wellness Consultant for Health4U at MSU, teaches you her incredibly wise and insightful 6-word framework to help you navigate challenges and unwanted experiences. These 6 words and their use can truly change your life!

5-Minute Walk

Teacher Appreciation Week officially ran Monday through Friday, but we couldn’t resist giving you a bonus! So, we introduced Annie Grieg, therapist and social worker, who encourages you to take at least one 5-minute walk per day to help remind your body that you are alive, you have agency, and you can do the things you need to do.

We hope you can work some (or all) of these into your routine to support your wellbeing. We appreciate you!
