The Master of Arts in Learning Experience Design (MALXD) program is excited to announce the second year of the MALXD Sprint Series! What is our Sprint Series? A dedicated time to explore, reflect, and design in community with other designers. Participants will engage in interactive sessions that expand knowledge and generate ideas through connection to practice.
You’ll come away with strategies and mindsets to craft more inclusive and innovative learner experiences. Sign up for one or both workshops!
This is a free event. Workshops are on Zoom and open to everyone.
Workshop 1: Designing for Focus
Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 1:00-2:00pm ET
Dedicate time to focus on design in a relaxed and supportive space! In this interactive workshop, you will be guided through intentional reflection and planning activities to increase focus in digital learning spaces – with your choice of designer or learner focus. You will address common misconceptions around attention, develop new ways to think about focus as a whole, and analyze the impact of digital media on focus. Through this hands-on workshop, you will reflect, goal set, and develop a digital well-being plan for yourself or your learners.
Participants will be able to:
- Implement and evaluate strategies for increasing focus in digital and non-digital learning activities.
- Identify how technology affects brain function and attention.
- Analyze the impact of digital media on attention.
- Examine digital workflow and interactions.
- Reflect on and revise workflow strategies.
- Create a digital well-being plan.
Workshop 2: Designing for Creativity with GenAI
Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 2:30-3:30pm ET
Ready to super-charge your creative practice? In this interactive workshop, you will explore a variety of practices and frameworks to support creativity in learning experience design. You will learn strategies to enhance your personal creativity as a designer and explore how generative AI can support this work as a brainstorm and creation partner. This will segue into how we design to promote learner creativity. You will combine designing with creativity and designing for creativity to consider, (re)imagine, and (re)design possibilities for your learning experiences.
Participants will be able to:
- Generate ideas for (re)designing learning experiences.
- Describe and differentiate how we design in creative ways and how we develop creativity in our learners
- Apply creative frameworks and strategies in their professional context.
