Graduate Research Colloquium

As a community of scholars, HALE graduate students from all programs gather in a half-day conference to share their scholarly works from classes and projects. Presenters highlight their academic and professional endeavors in brief 10-minute presentations before engaging their audience in dialogue for scholarly discussion and feedback.

PhD Open House
November 10th, 5:00-6:30PM ET

The open house is specifically for prospective students interested in the Doctor of Philosophy in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education. Participants will have an opportunity to learn about the curricula, application process, and engage faculty to discuss the program and answer questions. Register for the online event here.

International Study Courses

The Department of Educational Administration is pleased to offer two international study experiences with the support of the Center for Higher and Adult Education. In each experience, students have the opportunity to develop comparative approaches to study higher education and gain professional experiences in the international context. These international study experiences are offered on alternating summer sessions between South Africa (2019) and Japan (2018, 2020).

International Study Course in South Africa

The HALE Field Experience in South Africa enables HALE students to link knowledge and skills they gain as scholars in higher education to issues in the international context. The course is designed as a professional experience, involving collaborative projects with colleagues in South Africa. Much of the experience focuses on students having an opportunity to engage in supervised professional interactions and work. Students and faculty learn about higher education in another country, how to engage in organizational and cultural analysis, and how to relate specific theoretical and content knowledge to actual issues and problems. They practice skills as professionals who can interact with a wide array of colleagues. At the same time, the South African colleagues gain new knowledge and participate in professional development workshops facilitated by MSU student/faculty teams.

Fellowship to Enhance Global Understanding

Each year, many HALE students participate in these fellowships to travel abroad and study education in different countries. These competitve opportunities are open to graduate students in the College of Education, and range from 9 – 21 days. Since 2011, faculty from all departments have led groups on FEGU study abroad trips in Cyprus, Indonesia, Mexico, Cuba, and the Netherlands.
