Position: The Higher Education Program at the University of North Texas (UNT) seeks an assistant professor with a demonstrated record of strength in teaching, scholarship, and service to support the Program’s scholarly, professional, and academic initiatives. The successful candidate will serve a nine-month, tenure-track appointment beginning Fall semester 2012. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Part-time summer teaching is contingent on student demand and funding.
The Program: The Program offers masters’ and doctoral degrees in Higher Education. The Program faculty’s scholarly focus is student access to and success in higher education, with particular attention to the scholarship of transfer issues, community college, American Indian higher education, student affairs, and student development. The Don A. Buchholz Endowed Chair in Community College Education, the Bill J. Priest Center for Community College Education, the Center for Higher Education, the Texas Higher Education Law Conference, and the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students are affiliated with the Program.
Qualifications: The candidate must hold a doctorate in Higher Education or a related field conferred by start of employment. A record of effective research, publication, external funding, and teaching is expected. A research agenda in a topic(s) related to the Program faculty’s scholarly focus is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (a) pursuing a focused line of research leading to publications in top tier venues and to extramural funding, (b) teaching two (2) Higher Education courses each semester, (c) serving on doctoral committees and advising/mentoring students, (d) working with Program faculty members and with centers and institutes affiliated with the Program to maintain and enhance the Program’s stature, and (e) participating actively in service to the Program and University and to professional organizations.
The University: UNT is a student-centered public research university with over 37,000 students, one-third of whom are graduate students. The University is conveniently located in the vibrant and rapidly growing Denton-Dallas-Fort Worth region.
