The Associate Director of Student Programs provides leadership to the Center for Student Programs by helping to set the vision and direction for the department towards fulfilling our mission of empowering students to create organizations and programs that sustain a vibrant campus culture and provide critical learning opportunities. This position participates in the leadership of the department through: supervising full time professional staff members; developing and administering policies for student organizations and their members; managing use of facilities and equipment; training and advising student leaders; and providing programming and technology support for 150 plus student organizations including the Student Activities Commission advisory board, class committees, identity-based groups, academic clubs, and social organizations. The Associate Director also serves as the Director of Leadership Education and is responsible for giving direction to the leadership training needs of students at every stage of development; in this capacity, the Associate Director supervises two student coordinators of Leadership Programs.
The person in this position plays a key leadership role in the Center for Student Programs and the Division of Student Affairs. The role requires a person with strong background in student development and leadership theory as well as the ability to translate theory to practice. The successful candidate will be able to balance conceptual priorities with practical logistics and attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, the ability to be flexible and responsive to a variety of situations, and a genuine interest in working with students and staff across the university. This position will report to the Director of Student Programs.
The Center for Student Programs is a fast-paced, high-energy environment. Student contact is extensive and substantive. Staff members work collaboratively within the office and with many other university-wide constituent groups. Staff members are expected to exercise a high degree of responsibility and independent judgment and work irregular or extended hours during peak programming times.
