Position Opening – Program Advisor

The program advisor is responsible for advising and managing campus-wide programming initiatives sponsored by Carolina Productions, the student-run programming board. Carolina Productions has an operating budget of $500,000 and sponsors over 200 programs annually through its various committees, including Cinematic Arts, Ideas and Issues, Concerts, Cultural Awareness, Comedic Events, and Special Programs. Additional responsibilities include executing all programming related to the Carolina After Dark (late night programming) initiative. The program advisor will aid in the leadership education and development of the student leaders of Carolina Productions, interpret policies and procedures related to event planning, manage contractual and procurement processes, ensure compliance with campus rules and regulations, and collect data for assessment purposes. This position includes supervision of graduate students, student graphic designer, student interns and advisement of volunteer student leaders. This position reports to the Director of Campus Life/Russell House University Union and is part of the Department of Student Life within the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support.

Successful applicants will have experience working with students in a college/university setting. Understanding of event planning for small/large scale activities, experience advising student groups/organizations, and contract negotiation and review is necessary. Applicants shall be skilled in facilitating workshops and presentations and possess strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of the basic theories of student development, and public relations will come in handy. Experience developing and monitoring multiple budgets is also necessary. The ability to sustain a high-level of energy and commitment while coordinating multiple projects and initiatives is paramount to success. A good sense of humor will come in handy. This position involves frequent evening and weekend responsibilities, thus a flexible schedule is required.

A master’s degree in student affairs administration/student personnel or related area is required, along with 3 years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant work experience. Combination of graduate school experience and other work experience may equal work experience requirements. Salary is based on individual experience with base salary of $34,815.
