Open Position: Student Development Specialist

The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) seeks a Student Development Specialist to assist in the operations of the Office of Student Affairs.  This position will be available for the spring 2012 semester which will begin in late January.

AUAF, located in Kabul and funded in substantial part by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is entering a new phase of its development with a rapidly increasing enrollment and a the construction of our new campus now underway.  We offer both a challenging and rewarding environment for faculty and staff.  Current enrollment figures are around 750 and we expect to have close to 1,000 students for the spring semester. The Office of Student Affairs is an integral part of the university’s plans to provide student support services equivalent to those found in American colleges and universities but reflecting the special needs and circumstances of a unique Afghan student body.

The Student Development Specialist will be responsible for advising primarily first and second year students, teaching multiple sections of the UNV 100:  University Success seminar, and assisting in the development of student activities.  Taking leadership responsibilities with respect to New Student Orientation is also part of this position. Opportunities for assistance in the operation of residential facilities and advising student clubs may be available as well.

Candidates with masters’ degrees in counseling, human development, higher education or closely related fields will have a distinct advantage. Salary will be commensurate with experience.  AUAF provides transportation to and from Kabul and the home of record, housing and transportation in country, health and life insurance, and an annual travel allowance. AUAF also provides 5% of our employee’s annual salaries for retirement to be invested on your own.
