Department Chair Search: Educational Leadership & Policies at the University of South Carolina
The College of Education at the University of South Carolina, a research university, is seeking applications for Department Chair, Department of Educational Leadership and Policies, with a start date of August 2012. The department prepares scholars and educational leaders for P-12 schools and higher education.

Position Description: Design a collaborative process for the continuous improvement of the department’s curriculum and instructional program; Mentor a diverse group of dynamic tenure track researchers and clinical faculty; Lead the faculty in scholarship and the development of external grants; Advocate for the department’s contributions to the University and its community/educational partners; Lead the department in addressing the University and College vision, mission and goals, including faculty work in schools and in higher education; Provide oversight of departmental governance, planning, budgeting, and recruitment, development and evaluation of faculty and staff.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a scholar/ leader who displays high energy, enthusiasm and a commitment to diversity and program improvement. Experienced in P-12 schools, the Chair possesses a doctorate in educational administration or a related field. The candidate has demonstrated a commitment to scholarship through exemplary achievements in grant development and scholarly publication as well as a record of distinguished accomplishments in teaching and service. Qualifying for the rank of full professor at the University of South Carolina, the chair has strong organizational and leadership skills, a commitment to shared governance and collaboration, and the ability to guide change. The preferred candidate has significant leadership experience in P-12 public education or in a state education agency, or non-profit organization dedicated to education.

Position Announcement: Assistant/Associate Professor: Higher Education Administration

Qualifications: Requires a doctorate and demonstrated expertise in a) quantitative and/or mixed methods research; b) scholarly productivity relevant to the demands of inquiry typical of a Research 1 university; c) ability to secure external funding; and d) a content area (teaching and research) emphasis in the field of Higher Education Administration (including Community Colleges) in one or more of the following preferred areas: policy, law, comparative-international, finance, and/or assessment. Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate ability to a) teach graduate courses, b) direct dissertations and c) use technology (including distance teaching). Experience in project/program management and/or grant administration is preferred. Start date: August 16, 2012 (may be negotiable).

Responsibilities: This position includes teaching in the Higher Education Administration programs within the Department. A continuing and enlarging agenda of original, empirical research is essential, as is the guidance of Ph.D. candidates and Master’s thesis students. The successful candidate also will assume administrative responsibilities in the M.Ed. program in Higher Education Business Administration, a partnership with the University’s Moore School of Business.
