Appointment of new Assistant Dean for International Studies in the College of Education

January 15, 2013

On behalf of Donald E. Heller, Dean

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Reitumetse Mabokela as Assistant Dean for International Studies in the College of Education, effective May 16, 2013.  Reitu will be replacing Jack Schwille, who has spent a quarter century as Assistant Dean, and she will be working with him on transitioning to the new position during the spring semester.

Reitu is currently a Professor in the Department of Educational Administration and coordinator of the Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education graduate programs in that department.  She has been a faculty member in the College of Education since 1999, and also is a core faculty member in African American and African Studies, the African Studies Center, and the Center for Gender in Global Context.  She earned her Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

Reitu has established an international reputation for her research on institutional and organizational transformation processes in higher education (with a particular focus on South Africa), organizational culture and its impact on historically marginalized groups, and gender and education in a global context.  For the last two years she has coordinated the College of Education’s Fellowship Program for Enhancing Global Understanding.  Along with Ajit Srivastava in Engineering, Reitu is the co-PI on the recently awarded $25 million Global Center for Food Systems Innovation grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development.

Please join me in welcoming Reitu to her new position and congratulating her on the appointment.
