Academic Advising Assistant: California State University Long Beach

California State University Long Beach has an opening in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

The Academic Advising Assistant assists in providing basic academic advising and support services that promote academic achievement and progress towards degree for undergraduates in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Conducts one-on-one appointments, holds “walk-in” hours, and provides workshops for students. Provides support for the various advising and support programs. Processes and analyzes student data such as advising forms, degree progress reports, advising workshop invitations, and student files.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of academic advising techniques. Ability to effectively work with an ethically and culturally diverse environment and the ability to foster cooperation between peers and colleagues. Ability to provide effective customer service.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university’s commitment to a “vision of excellence.”
