Academic Specialist – Curriculum and Instructional Design in Quantitative Fisheries at MSU

The Quantitative Fisheries Center (QFC) within the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University seeks an outstanding candidate for an Academic Specialist position. In this position, you will assist QFC leadership in development and administration of a distance education-based certification program in quantitative fisheries. You will be expected to create instructional videos and other on-line materials from course content developed by others, and to teach mathematical concepts and computer coding as it relates to fisheries management and population dynamics. You will be responsible for day-to-day management of the certification program, recruiting and advising students, providing outreach to partner agencies, advertising and marketing for the courses and program, and fund-raising. You will also assist the QFC leadership with some administrative tasks of the center.

Qualifications:
A master’s degree in education or science-related field. Must be able to understand mathematical and computer programming concepts so as to develop online materials from supplied content. Experience with creating interactive online content using authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Camtasia, or Captivate. Experience using a learning management system (e.g., Angel, Desire2Learn) preferably in an instructor role. An understanding of how people learn and how to address learner needs in an online environment. An ability to break a complex project into smaller tasks, creating step-by- step guides for how to complete the project. An ability to take initiative, work flexibly, and adhere to priorities with minimal direct supervision. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Background/interest in biological sciences and prior exposure to population dynamics and statistics is desired.
