Call for Proposals: UM Student Life Research Symposium

March 2, 2015

Save the Date: May 12, 2015 for the Research Symposium

Proposals due March 9, 2015

As we prepare for our upcoming Student Life Research Symposium, we welcome your proposals! As we integrate theory and practice, we examine how to apply research to collaborative work educating students, and apply what we learn from these collaborations to research in progress. Questions we’ll pursue include:

  • What are the variety of ways that Student Life Learning Outcomes are being used to measure student learning before or after our educational work with students?
  • How can we describe connections to our collective impact work?
  • How can we incorporate shared measures about learning outcomes in numerous, diverse units?
  • How do we provide research and assessment to integrative learning efforts that bridge numerous units’ student learning opportunities?
  • What research questions emerge about how students learn leadership skills today, and in the future?

As you can tell, particular emphasis will be on our collaborative efforts, whether between areas of Student Life or across the broader array of campus initiatives.

We will welcome Sylvia Hurtado as our Eric Dey Keynote Address speaker. Dr. Hurtado’s ongoing national leadership of conversations around Inclusive Excellence will add greatly to our understanding of how action and research infuse each other across a longer term agenda.

We are excited to welcome the campus and the nation together as we discuss and describe the ways our practice and research travel together.
