CEP 991- Internet Research

May 4, 2016

Course Description

The prevalence of Internet usage brings numerous research opportunities as well as new challenges for social researchers. The web is a large and socially constructed network that reflects its users’ social, economic, and political behaviors. It is increasingly important for researchers to learn how to conduct research online or through online tools.

The range of available Internet research methods has been growing rapidly in response to the possibilities that the Internet holds for social scientists. The purpose of this new course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the theories and methods by which we seek to understand human behavior on the web. By the end of the course, students will have learned about a wide selection of the latest tools, research methods, and data resources for conducting research via the Internet and/or about online behaviors and communities.
