2018-2019 Graduate Endowed Scholarship opportunities.

February 8, 2018

Dear EAD Graduate Students:

Michael Sedlak’s office has recently posted information about the 2018-2019 Graduate Endowed Scholarship opportunities.

Please visit this website to review informational and application details, but also note that the application process will not open until February 12, 2018:http://education.msu.edu/resources/financial/grad-scholarships-fellowships.asp

The Departmental Committee on Academic Programs (DCAP, hereafter) is writing to you today to offer you some tips for your application process:

Eligibility

Some of the scholarships are open to all graduate students; others are restricted. For example, there are seven scholarships available ONLY to graduate students in EAD. Read the descriptions of each scholarship carefully to see if you meet eligibility requirements. If you do, please proceed with the online application process.

In order to be eligible for any Graduate Endowed Scholarship, you must be enrolled in a College of Education graduate degree program for the Spring 2018 and Fall 2018 semesters. Doctoral students who hold the MSU Fellowship are not eligible during their Fellowship (First and Final) years.

Application Process

On the online application form, be sure to check the box for ALL scholarships for which you qualify. We cannot award you a scholarship for which you do not apply, even if you meet all of the eligibility requirements!

The required materials for applications slightly vary.  Double-check that you have completed all requirements for the various scholarships.

Some of the EAD scholarships require students to submit materials outside of the online application system. For example, the Heilman Endowed Fellowship requires students to submit two letters of recommendation, but the online system only allows for one document to be uploaded. Therefore, any and all additional application materials should be submitted to Courtney Kosloski at marti884@msu.edu by the deadline. When you (or your faculty recommender) email Courtney materials, please be sure to use your last name as well as EAD Endowed Scholarship in the subject line, like this: Gonzales_EAD Endowed Scholarship

Faculty Recommendations

Faculty recommendations are an important part of the application. As you apply, you will need to the add the name of your faculty recommender to the system. (We recommend that you consult with faculty before entering their name). The faculty person will receive an email directing them to submit a recommendation online. Written letters of reference will not be accepted with one exception: the Heilman Endowed Fellowship. The Heilman, which is only open to HALE students, requires students to submit a letter of recommendation from two faculty members. One letter is to submitted electronically through the online application system and the other can be emailed

Important Dates

o   The application system will open at 8:00 AM, February 12, 2018 and will close at 5:00 PM on February 25, 2018.

o   Faculty recommenders will have until 8:00 AM on March 5, 2018 to submit their letter of recommendation online. If students are applying for the Heilman Endowed Fellowship, their second recommendation letter is due to Courtney Kosloski by the same date and time.
