The University’s annual Spring Conference on Student Learning and Success is taking place from May 6-8 on campus. All members of the community are welcome to attend and submit proposals, including students. Our students study issues of student success and learning and would be able to propose some great sessions. It would be a good conference experience.
This year the Teaching and Learning Spring Conference and the Student Success Data Summit have combined into one event! The goal of the conference is to: share data related to student learning and success; leverage the campus community’s collective skills and knowledge about teaching, learning, assessment, research, and administrative processes to advance student learning and success; and support the entire university community in our efforts.
Collectively, the conference seeks to:
- Actively engage participants
- Highlight work related to Student Learning and Success
- Reflect current evidence-based practices
- Represent the learning and growth from both failure and success
- Stimulate personal and professional growth
- Build working partnerships and community
Additionally, this year the conference will align with the Student Learning and Success Strategic Plan:
Vision:
Michigan State University will create an accessible and equitable undergraduate student experience, both inside and outside the classroom, that empowers all students to learn, develop purpose and passion, and grow as individuals to achieve their goals.
Mission:
Collaboratively re-shape the institution to better support undergraduate student learning and success.
Goals:
- To close opportunity gaps for underserved students (first generation, lower income, Black, Latinx, Native American and/or international students) on campus.
- To increase diversity and inclusion on campus to ensure all students have equitable experiences inside and outside of the classroom.
- To increase campus retention and graduation rates and decrease cost and time to degree.
The conference will be held May 6-8, 2019 in Wells Hall. Please hold these dates on your calendar.
The committee seeks submissions that highlight the work being done on campus around student learning and success, showcase transformative teaching (early-stage, in process, or reflective efforts), and provide opportunities for learning and professional growth for all educators on campus. The diversity of session types and topic areas is designed to invite proposals from all groups or individuals within the MSU community engaged in teaching, learning, and student success.
Proposals for the Spring Conference on Student Learning and Success are due at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019. Everyone will be notified regarding acceptance of proposals by Friday, March 8, 2019.
