Dear CREA Family, Friends, and Colleagues:

First let me begin by once again thanking everyone for their patience as we all continually navigate our national and global contexts at multiple levels in preparation for our conference. There is increasing excitement and frenetic planning for our Sixth International CREA Conference, Interrogating Cultural Responsiveness against the Backdrop of Racism and Colonialism, to be held in Chicago September 29 -October 1. I am very pleased to announce an outstanding offering of pre-conference workshops (in person only) that will be available on September 28 and 29th.

CREA VI will begin at 1 pm on September 29 with Joe Podlasek (Trickster Gallery) and other representatives of the Chicago Area Indigenous Communities providing the formal welcome ceremony once again and will be followed by CREA/UIUC opening remarks.

We are finalizing our opening keynote speaker for the evening of September 29 that will be followed by our welcome reception. Our morning plenary session on September 30 will focus on “Measurement, Data Science, and the Critical with panelists: Ezekiel Dixon-Roman (University of Pennsylvania), Odis Johnson (Johns Hopkins University) and Ebony McGee (Vanderbilt University)

Monica Mitchell (MERAssociates) will chair this session and  Melvin Hall (Northern Arizona University) will serve as discussant.

Na’ilah Suad Nasir (President Spencer Foundation and current President of the American Educational Research Association will deliver the Fifth Edmund W. Gordon Distinguished Senior Lecture at the luncheon as part of Professor Gordon’s Centennial Birthday Celebration.

Mildred García (President, American Association of State Colleges and Universities Washington DC.) will deliver the closing conference keynote address at the luncheon on October 1. Daniel Solórzano (Professor of Social Science and Comparative Education and Chicana and Chicano Studies at UCLA) will serve as the discussant.
