Saturday, August 28th:
- Graduate School Welcoming & Resource Fair – 9 AM to Noon (Virtual)
- COGS Fall Welcome Celebration – 2 pm to 4 pm at Benefactors Plaza, MSU Campus behind Chittenden Hall
First, all NEW and RETURNING Graduate & Professional Students are invited to attend the Graduate School’s Virtual Welcoming and Resource Fair, Saturday, August 28th from 9 am to Noon. Following the virtual fair, close your computer, grab a friend, bring your family and come out to campus for a real, live and in-person, celebration of new beginnings! The Council of Graduate Students, along with The Graduate School and Graduate Student Life & Wellness, supported by the generosity of many campus sponsors, will host the COGS Graduate & Professional Student Fall Welcome Celebration from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Location: Benefactors Plaza (behind Chittenden Hall). Free parking is available in the Grand River Ramp #6.
This year, we are focusing on activities to encourage connections – with graduate and professional student peers, and the MSU campus community. The Graduate School is leading the way with coordinating special community groups for students as well as fun networking games and activities! We’ll have music and dancing featuring MSU’s own Impact Radio, plus an array of activities hosted by campus partners such as The Sci-Files (LIVE Podcast), Broad Art Museum, MSU Library Makers Space, NSCL & FRIB, MSU Planetarium, MSU Bug House, Gender & Sexuality Campus Center (GSCC), Women*s Student Services, Student-Parent Resource Center, Rec Sports & Fitness, plus Grad Student Life & Wellness and Therapy Pets. We’ll have grab-and-go snacks AND a special treat courtesy of Insomnia Cookies! Rounding out the event will be lots of fun yard games and PRIZES – donated by many generous East Lansing area businesses! Sparty will make an appearance too! **FEATURED** The Graduate School & Graduate Student Life & Wellness will be on hand to introduce their new Community Groups Initiative. When you sign up for Community Groups, you’ll have the chance to be part of a group of other graduate students with similar interests (whether it’s East Lansing for newcomers, running, reading, hobbies, identity-based affinities, family or academic interests; the list goes on) and build a community to support and engage you throughout your time at MSU. Look for the Graduate School table at the Fall Welcome to sign up. They will also be hosting fun networking games too! So be sure to head for their table area at the event.
Registration
This in-person event is FREE for MSU Graduate & Professional Students and their families! Please be prepared to fill out a short registration form (Name, email & role (student/staff/guest) to receive wristband for entry to the event space. There will be QR-coded signs that will link to the form. Please show submission page from device to receive wristband. Everyone (including guests) must register. COGS staff will be able help register those who are not able to use a device for this.
Note
Masks not required but are encouraged for this outdoor event. Please note that additional guidance may be added as per any developing University guidelines. See https://msu.edu/together-we-will/ for more information on how the campus is navigating during the pandemic.
