Position Title: DRN Assistant Coordinator
Level: Level II-III
Classification: Graduate Assistant
Pay Condition: 50% time
Pay Grade: $1,012- 1,156 (minimum stipend)

Fall Semester 2021 and Spring Semester 2022, Summer 2022   

The Diversity Research Network (DRN) is searching for a graduate student with advanced program coordination skills to fill a vacant graduate assistant position. The DRN connects faculty of color and scholars interested in diversity research, to create scholarly communities, facilitate new interdisciplinary collaborations, and to advance the growth and visibility of research by underrepresented faculty as well as research on diversity across MSU.  The DRN emphasizes MSU’s value of diversity as excellence across all disciplines and promotes this value through the support and resources it offers.

The DRN connects faculty of color and diversity research scholars, to create scholarly communities, facilitate new interdisciplinary collaborations, and to advance the growth and visibility of research by underrepresented faculty as well as research on diversity across MSU. The DRN is a support vehicle for enhancing research productivity, mentoring, and training emphasizing the unique research contexts of faculty of color and diversity scholars, grant and publication output, and meaningful collaborative research opportunities.

Job Summary

This position’s primary responsibility is to assist the Director of the Diversity Research Network (DRN) and Program Coordinator in achieving the work and mission of the DRN within the Office for Inclusion. Duties center on providing support to implement DRN programming and maintenance of data and records related to that programming.  Support DRN events, produce weekly notices and by yearly newsletters, support communication to DRN members via email, advertisement, and social media.  Support management of applications for competitive events of the DRN.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Planning and Implementation
    • Create, manage and disseminate applications for various program participation
    • Event planning support
    • Develop and maintain participant lists for all events and activities
    • Assist with the development of yearly activity calendar
    • Assist program director overseeing undergraduate student assignments
    • Assist in the development of promotional materials for the program including marketing, branding and outreach
    • Attend regular DRN team meetings and occasional I3 team meetings
    • Assist with creating and developing materials for programs including, presentations on the DRN, and participant journal
    • Provide support for director presentations
    • Assist in the development of program assessment instruments using quantitative and qualitative methodology
    • Manage, maintain current statistical/qualitative information, databases, and evaluations of DRN programs and activities
    • Maintain attendance and communications lists from events, Qualtrics and Mailchimp
    • Reserve and help set up meeting spaces, arrange food with caterers and prepare meeting materials, in consultation with the Director and I3 Support Staff
    • Work with director, undergraduate student employee, and communications team on website maintenance
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Information Support and Dissemination
    • Create weekly DRN notices for membership in concert with the Director
    • Assist with the DRN biannual newsletter, interfacing with the communications team
    • Assist with social media networks outreach for the DRN
    • Create flyers and slide presentations as needed with communications assistance
  • Support the Maintenance of DRN infrastructure
    • Help to support and maintain faculty database and emails systems
    • Help to maintain a calendar of meetings re: DRN and searches, presentations with dept secretary III

Required Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree or equivalent standing in a PHD program in liberal arts or related field (Social Work, Education, Higher Education, Counseling, Social Sciences, Educational Administration, Human Resource Management, Communications, etc.). 
  • Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program, MA in higher, administration, social or educational sciences, business,  and/or specialization in social justice education.
  • Ability to demonstrate engagement or training associated with issues impacting diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement events
  • Strong writing skills

Desired Qualifications*

  • Graduate student in a PhD program
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work with multiple projects and prioritize deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures, backgrounds, ideologies, populations, including personal and social orientations (e.g. nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ability, class, and other social identities).
  • Experience with Qualtrics and database management.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication and attention to detail.
  • Experience in program assessment and evaluation.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks autonomously and efficiently. Strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with faculty, postdocs, and staff from a wide-range of experiences and identities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cooperatively with others in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Impeccable professional ethics and standards working with diverse populations.
