The Graduate Assistant for University-Community Relations works directly with MSU’s Community Liaison in support of the CL’s mission and to supervise and support a team of undergraduate Community Relations Interns. This latter activity is dependent on adequate funding.
The Community Liaison position is community -focused, designed to facilitate progress and connectivity in town-gown relationships, not limited to but certainly wherever students are present. The CL serves as a bridge, a resource and a troubleshooter. Collaborative activity and positive relationship building are hallmarks of success. The CL reports jointly to the Division of Student Affairs and Services and the Office of Government Relations.
The GA position is designed to complement and support the responsibilities of the Community Liaison and to coordinate and manage the activities of the undergraduate intern team. The ideal candidate will feel comfortable working independently and reacting to an environment which is fast-paced and ever-evolving.
In addition to supporting the Community Liaison function broadly, The GA is responsible for:
- Programming to support CL initiatives, including but not limited to, MSUvote Initiatives, Landlord and Property Management Summits and the MSU Housing Fair.
- Education and Outreach initiatives addressing immediate town-gown concerns, including, but not limited to production of a brochure outlining community expectations for all students.
- Assisting in the promotion of the MSU Housing Listing Service (offcampus.msu.edu)
- Supporting the development of relationships and channels of communication with various campus and community stakeholders, as a medium for promoting information sharing and educational outreach.
- Assisting, where needed, in the implementation of initiatives and programs associated with the Community Relations Student Interns, Celebrations Committee and other groups.
- Other duties as assigned.
The Graduate Assistant for University-Community Relations is a half-time GA, equivalent to 20 hours per week for the fall and spring semesters. A two-year commitment to the position is preferred. The anticipated start date for the position is August 1, 2021.
