Professional Development Event: ACPA ASHE Presidential Symposium

August 23, 2021

Here is a FREE opportunity for professional development, in partnership with the division of student affairs and services. HALE dept will sponsor 20 students to attend this symposium, on-campus (we’ll be together on campus, the symposium will come to us virtually). See email below that Dr. Shea sent to the Division – you need to go to the Qualtrics form to register. There is no charge to you, but because we will be paying for registration (HALE and division of SAS), please check your calendar and make sure you can attend before you sign up.

Thanks to Ruth Renaud funding, we are once again collaborating with the HALE Unit in the College of Education to create a space for professional development and learning with the ACPA-ASHE Presidential Symposium. The 2021 Symposium will take place (virtually) on Friday, October 1 from 1-3 p.m. ET. The theme of this year’s event is “Leading in Higher Education: Reimagining Our Spaces and Places.” We plan to reserve a space so folks can watch the virtual event together and then after the symposium, Dr. Kris Renn (Professor in HALE) and I (Dr. Heather Shea) will be hosting a facilitated discussion and reflection session. A Zoom option will also be available.

About the Symposium

The Presidential Symposium co-sponsored by ACPA-College Student Educators International and the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) will bring together higher education practitioners and scholars to reimagine, influence, and lead in what is new, what is happening now, and what comes next. In this mid-Fall symposium, ACPA President Danielle Morgan Acosta and ASHE President D-L Stewart will continue the Presidential Symposium tradition of engaging, meaningful, and cross-functional conversation about key issues in higher education in this “moment.” Panelists are higher education scholars and practitioners who are committed in their work to justice and liberation, and also to the ideas and principles of trauma-informed care: Safety, choice, collaboration, trust, and empowerment.

To Attend

  • Please complete this Qualtrics form to express interest in attending. This form is not your registration (we will coordinate that through either SAS or through HALE). Those who are registered will receive information from ACPA about how to participate in the Symposium virtually.
  • Given that space is limited, please complete this form as soon as possible.
  • Only the first 20 people from each unit will be able to attend. We will create a waiting list after 20 registrants from HALE and 20 from SAS.
