The Higher Education Program at Northern Illinois University is seeking a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor with expertise in administration of higher education and in student success for historically underrepresented and marginalized student populations.
NIU is located 65 miles west of Chicago in DeKalb, IL with satellite campuses around Chicagoland. The Department of Counseling and Higher Education is one of six departments in the College of Education. The department offers a M.S.Ed in Higher Education and Student Affairs, an Ed.D. in Higher Education with three specializations (Community College Leadership, Higher Education Administration, and College Teaching) and a minor in Social Change Leadership. The program is known for its commitment to diversity and equity with 45% of Ed.D. and Masters students identifying as students of color.
The qualified candidate is expected to teach graduate courses in higher education/student affairs administration and/or higher education research and assessment methods. Courses are delivered on-campus in different modalities including weekly face-to-face, online, and hybrid. This position is a one-year visiting assistant professor (3/3 teaching load) with potential for renewal for a second year. Summer teaching for additional compensation is also available as well as conference travel funds.
The applicant must have a conferred doctoral degree in higher education, or a closely related field, by August 2022 and a minimum of three years professional experience working at a higher education institution.
