The MSU Prevention, Outreach and Education (POE) Department is offering a practicum experience opportunity in the area of faculty, staff and graduate professionals prevention programs and services. The mission of the Prevention, Outreach and Education Department is to empower community commitment to prevent gender-based violence through education, outreach, and social change.The department creates, facilitates, and assesses various workshops, initiatives, and strategic processes to educate and empower the campus community.
The practicum student will have an opportunity to work on projects with the POE team to enhance outreach and enhance trainings for faculty, staff, and graduate students. The individual will research content for presentations and support the Faculty & Staff Prevention Specialist in organizing and coordinating two large POE events: the POE 4th Annual Summit and the Fall Graduate Student Symposium. The individual will also be involved in the process of creation and implementation of various tailored prevention presentations such as “Faculty and Staff Bystander Intervention” and “Healthy Workplace Environment”. During POE conferences and workshops, faculty, staff and graduate students have an opportunity to build skills for creating a healthy campus climate, supporting students and survivors, and connecting with campus and community partners. The practicum student will assist in creating social media content focused on faculty, staff, and graduate student audiences and will help identify strategies for growing POE’s social media presence.
Upon the completion of this experience the practicum student will:
- Gain comprehensive knowledge of college campus prevention strategies via the largest prevention department in the United States.
- Build content knowledge about various policies such as the RVSM and Title IX policy at MSU.
- Assist with organizing the POE 4th Annual Summit and the Fall Graduate Student Symposium.
- Gain experience in planning large scale educational conferences.
- Support the development of new educational programs in the department: “Field Safety” and “Prevention of Gender-based Violence: My Individual Responsibility”.
- Expand professional network via participation in staff meetings and development.
