Assistant Area Coordinator Position- Summer 2022

Position Title:  Assistant Area Coordinator 

Position Qualifications: Recent Graduate or Current Graduate Student 

Internship Dates: May 9th– August 5th (Negotiable) 

Compensation and Benefits: 

  • $5,000 stipend (if full term is served) for a 12-week period consisting of 30 hours per week

Position Expectations and Responsibilities: 

The Assistant Area Coordinator will serve as an integral member of the Office of Residence Life and Housing summer staff and will include the following expectations and responsibilities:  

  • Train, supervise, and evaluate a staff of 8-10 undergraduate Summer Resident Assistants 
  • Participates in on-call duty rotation with Area Coordinators. Works closely with Director, Associate Director, and both College dean’s offices to provide support to students. As essential personnel, provides support and assistance when necessary in response to campus crisis. Response related to COVID-19 university and office protocols is also possible. 
  • Serve as a liaison to University Facilities concerning housing and facility issues and concerns 
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority in collaboration with the University of Richmond Police Department 
  • Meet periodically with Associate Director of Housing as needed to discuss check in and check out procedures 
  • Support the check-in and check-out procedures for residence hall and apartment residents at the beginning and end of each summer school session 
  • Meet weekly with supervisors to discuss internship goals, progress towards goals, and issues or concerns 
  • Meet bi-weekly with undergraduate Summer Resident Assistants 
  • Lead weekly staff meetings with Summer Resident Assistants 
  • Distribute and oversee completion of administrative responsibilities including housing inventories, bed check forms, and incident reports (as appropriate) 
  • Complete bi-weekly facility walkthroughs of residence halls and apartments  
  • Facilitate educational student conduct meetings 
  • Assist the Office of Residence Life and Housing in the fiscal year assessment process 
  • Conduct informational interviews with different departments and professional staff members on campus to gain greater knowledge and experience in areas outside of internship 
  • Actively participate, create, and assist in the implementation of ideas in department, office meetings, and special projects such as Resident Assistant fall training, Resident Assistant recruitment and selection, and student staff contracts and manuals 
  • Maintain visibility and accessibility within the office and residential facilities  
  • Abide by and enforce all University policies and procedures 
  • Consistently display a positive attitude toward fulfillment of internship expectations and responsibilities 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing
