A. Position Purpose

The Division of Student Affairs at San Jose State University is taking a curricular approach to the delivery of co-curricular programs and services.  This approach will be grounded in a defined Student Affairs Curriculum, an embedded commitment to racial justice and equity, and a continuous assessment of educational and operational effectiveness.  This requires a new role in the Division that will ensure that the fundamental work of Student Affairs is executed to address learning and engagement principles, and will be done in new ways to meet the dynamic and diverse needs of all demographics of students. The Director will report to the Vice President of Student Affairs with a dotted line to the Director of Institutional Research.  This role is designed to center equity and racial justice within the co-curriculum and the assessment of the co-curriculum.  The Director will bring a new intentionality to the content of Student Affairs work, the efficacy of engagement strategies, and ensuring that historically underrepresented students and experiences are made core subjects of programs, services, and policies.   To fulfill the promise to the students and communities we serve alongside, SJSU will be an organization that actively promotes diversity, inclusivity, and equity, ensuring that everyone in our community experiences a deep sense of belonging. To actualize this vision and contribute to combating systemic oppression within and across our communities, SJSU must champion and consistently apply an equity lens to our external and internal work, and endeavor to build and nurture a diverse, inclusive, equitable environment that effectively prepares and engages members of our community in their pursuit of expanding opportunity and striving for educational equity for the students we serve.
