Webinar: Student Affairs and Side Hustles: A Balancing Act – Thursday, April 14, 2022, 1 PM ET

“In recent years, many student affairs professionals have developed “side hustles” as a way to supplement their base salaries. A side hustle, as the name implies, is something the professional engages in to bring in extra money and thus enhance their quality of life. Although the practice has been around for decades, its popularity seems to have increased significantly in recent years.

There is nothing inherently wrong with having a side hustle, especially if it is compatible with the proverbial “day job.”  The extra income that these ventures can generate can often help to make ends meet while giving the professional a healthy diversion from the stress of their full-time duties and responsibilities. Problems can arise, however, if the professional starts to spend more time on their side hustle than their regular job – or if there is a perceived conflict of interest.

This webinar will explore the advantages and disadvantages of side hustles, as well as how to successfully manage both within the time constraints inherent to most student affairs positions. Included in the discussion will be tips for balancing the demands of both – and making sure priorities are maintained so that job performance does not suffer. This will be a very hands-on discussion.”
