Doctoral Student Appointed to International Association of Student Affairs and Services Team in Haiti

June 26, 2012

L. Michelle Vital (current HALE doctoral student; SAA MA, 05) was recently selected to serve on the International Association of Student Affairs and Services (IASAS) team who will be traveling to Haiti to provide consulting services to the HELP project.  HELP’s mission is to create, through merit and needs based scholarships, a community of young professionals and leaders who will promote a more just society in Haiti.

Michelle shared the following statement, “I am the daughter of immigrant parents from Haiti. My identity as a first-generation American and college graduate has largely shaped my passion for mentoring young women in their pursuit of educational success. I have always strived to make meaning of my Haitian-American identity and to determine how I could best use my academic achievements to give back to the country that my family is from. My research interest is in higher education policy in the Caribbean. It is my hope to be able to tangibly support the higher education system in Haiti.”

Congratulations, Michelle!
